Master Health and Wellness Coach Best Nutrition Tips, Part One
Good morning!
Hope you're enjoying this fresh fall so far and had some great family time this past sunny weekend! I've been feeling pretty good about my willpower towards staying at least five feet away from my 10-year-old's various classmate birthday party pizza and cupcake tables at all times . So far, so good! Consistent control over our short-term urges to protect our progress towards our long-term goals is vital!
With that in mind, let's go over some nutrition tips today for those who may not know where to begin and/or could use some hints as to how we can make things easier on ourselves in this nutrition journey...
Here are three top tips to help beginners kickstart a healthy nutrition regimen:
Focus on Whole, Nutrient-Dense Foods:
Base your meals and snacks around whole, minimally processed foods such as fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins, and healthy fats.
Aim to include a variety of colorful fruits and vegetables in your diet to ensure you're getting a wide range of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants.
Choose whole grains like quinoa, brown rice, oats, and whole wheat bread over refined grains to increase fiber intake and promote satiety.
Practice Portion Control and Mindful Eating:
Pay attention to portion sizes and avoid oversized servings, which can lead to consuming more calories than needed.
Use smaller plates and bowls to help control portion sizes and prevent overeating.
Practice mindful eating by eating slowly, savoring each bite, and paying attention to hunger and fullness cues. Avoid distractions like watching TV or scrolling through your phone while eating, as this can lead to mindless overeating.
Stay Hydrated and Limit Sugary Drinks:
Drink plenty of water throughout the day to stay hydrated and support overall health. Aim for at least 8 glasses (about 64 ounces) of water daily, more if you're physically active or in hot weather.
Limit intake of sugary beverages like soda, fruit juice, sweetened coffee drinks, and energy drinks, as they can contribute excess calories and added sugars to your diet without providing nutritional benefits.
Opt for healthier beverage choices such as water, herbal tea, sparkling water with a splash of fruit juice, or unsweetened coffee and tea.
By focusing on whole, nutrient-dense foods, practicing portion control and mindful eating, and staying hydrated while limiting sugary drinks, beginners can lay a solid foundation for a healthy nutrition regimen. Remember that small, sustainable changes over time can lead to long-term success in achieving and maintaining a healthy diet.
